Mountain Creek Farm Open Days
As part of our commitment to transparency and the community, we open the farm several times a year - we do not charge for these events. If interested you will need to let us know by registering. These events have proved to be very popular, and numbers are sometimes limited, so in fairness it is on a first in first registered basis.
We also host field days and farm tours for; Biodynamic Groups, the Canberra Slow Food Convivium, the Weston A Price Foundation members, Food history courses, special children's days, and other groups. There is the possibility of joining various special interest groups from time to time, so please contact us for details.
We are also happy to give local school groups guided tours. Numbers are limited to one class at a time, so 30 or less, and these are usually designed for the ag. science or biology classes, but SOSE classes might be interested too. As a working small farm there are a few contraints, but not many. If teachers wish to tailor a visit to suit their class, please contact us to discuss. Use the registration link if interested.
So come and visit our cows, pigs, sheep, chooks, ducks, geese, peacocks and see how one paddock to plate farm operates. You will be most welcome.
Next open days?
Will be in Spring 2009. There will be many farm days catering to various interest groups. Some will be picnic type events with short walks to visit the animals, others will be of a more technical or special interest nature eg. slow food days, Weston A Price days, Biodynamic days, Aquaponic days, pig days, sheep days, cattle days and so on. They will be posted right here when determined.
Melbourne Cup Day 3 November 2009 11am Now Full sorry. (first Tuesday in November) has been declared a "family holiday" in the ACT, so it will be the perfect day for a children's day on our farm. N.B. We will be filming on 3 November, so if you have a problem with this - don't come this time.
So come and visit the cows and calves, sheep and lambs, pigs and piglets, chooks and ducks, geese, Llamas and peacocks! We will go for a short guided walk and return for a picnic bbq . Please note the bbq this year will by gold coin donation, and the monies will go to the Karen Refugee group for seeds and seedlings. The Karen will commence vegetable farming with us in the near future.
The simple conditions of visiting Mountain Creek Farm are:
1. Please register here to let us know you are coming so that we can cater for numbers. How many people are planning to visit is all we need in your email, we will reply with times dates and mud map.2. Children are welcome and must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. We are a working farm with machinery, dams, large animals, electric fences and other potential hazards to children.
3. Please don't bring your pets. As much as we love animals, your pet will not be allowed out of the car if it 'comes for the ride'.
